You won’t be able to tell if this dreamy banana tahini smoothie is a dessert or a healthy snack. This smoothie is decadent, healthy, and packed full of nutrients.

I love to drink smoothies … in case you couldn’t tell! I make almost daily, and the fact that there are so many different flavor combinations, I rarely ever get bored. Are you a smoothie lover like me, too?

Usually my smoothies consist of several different kinds of fruits, almond milk or coconut water, superfood add ins and always a handful or two of greens. My favorite thing about smoothies is that you can pack in a lot of nutrients into one glass and even sneak in some greens that usually go unnoticed.

A Smoothie Tip for Getting Your Greens

Parents (or those who have a picky-eating person in the family), greens are usually easy to conceal in berry smoothies, specifically ones with blueberries in them. I will often throw a handful of spinach in a mixed berry smoothie and you would never even know! The color and taste are the same.

Even though green smoothies are near and dear to my heart, I sometimes crave smoothies that are a little more decadent and could even be classified as a dessert (a healthy one, at that!).

For me, any smoothie that has bananas in it will satisfy my sweet tooth and trick my mind into thinking that I just indulged in a decadent treat. I usually add almond butter in my banana smoothies to kick up the nutrient profile and add a yummy, nutty flavor.

For this dreamy banana tahini smoothie though, we are stepping out on the wild side and using… tahini! Just in case you’ve never heard of tahini, it’s essentially sesame seeds ground up to form a thick paste.

Tahini is extremely versatile, as it has a mild flavor and creamy texture. I often use it in power bowl dressings, homemade hummus, and now, smoothies!

Unlike some nuts and seeds, tahini is easy to digest for those of you that have sensitive stomachs. It is also an excellent source of calcium, protein, and B vitamins which boosts energy levels and even your mood.

This dreamy banana tahini smoothie recipe also includes maca powder – one of my favorite superfood smoothie add ins. It has a nutty, caramel-like flavor and works to boost energy levels, as well as enhance memory, stamina and fertility. If you don’t have maca powder on hand, don’t sweat it, it can easily be left out and still taste delicious!

If you love banana smoothies like I do, and aren’t afraid to try something new, then you are going to love this recipe. I even like to top my smoothie with a drizzle of tahini and sprinkle of the Purely Elizabeth Maple Walnut Probiotic Granola (I just can’t get enough of this stuff!).
